Product Description
“Easily the most innovative alpabet book of the year, if not the decade… Beyond clever.”—The Washington Post Prepare to be amazed. From the lenticular cover that changes with the angle of your hands all the way to the Z, ABC3D is as much a work of art as it is a pop-up book. Each of the 26 three-dimensional letters move and change before your eyes. C turns into D with a snap. M stands at attention. X becomes Y with a flick of the wrist. And then there’s U…Boldly conceived and brilliantly executed with a striking black, red, and white palette, this is a book that readers and art lovers of all ages will treasure for years to come. … More >> ABC3D

  1. This was given to our son for his 1st birthday. If I actually let him near the book he would destroy it in seconds as the paper that the pop-ups are made of is quite flimsy. Totally inappropriate for young children. Whenever kids know how to be very gentle – then they’d be OK with this book, though I still would not recommend it. I only tried to open a few pages and often the way one letter is supposed to morph into another either did not glide well or was hard to even figure out which letters they were supposed to be. 2. This is a pop-up book that goes through all 26 letters of the English alphabet.

The front cover has a 4-level lenticular sticker that shows the letters A, B, C, or D depending on how you tilt the book. Unfortunately, you never really see one clearly though regardless of how the book is held. You mostly see a mixture of two or three of the levels that simply hurts your eyes to look at.

The inside “pop-up” letters are boring and uninspiring. I am not sure I would want to use this as a teaching tool for younger children either. Some of the letters really don’t resemble the correct letters at all. ‘K’ for example looks more like half of a bow-tie.

‘U’ is probably the most interesting of the pop-ups. It consists of dozens of complex cuts and folds of a solid piece of cardboard that unfolds as you open the pages. Too bad I would not know that it was the letter ‘U’ unless I cheated and peaked at the letter ‘T’ before it.

There is no text other than the letters themselves through the book. There are only three colors used: white, black, and red. Boring.

The quality of the book is reasonable however, and it should hold up under careful use. All pop-up books are somewhat fragile, but this book shipped with plenty of paper inserts to protect the complicated folds and designs within. A few pages required the reader to carefully close the page making sure everything was folding back into place. A quick careless flip through this book would probably damge it, but then again all pop-up books are like this.

But children that are young enough to only want to look at the alphabet are probably not going to be careful enough to prevent damage. And older children will probably be bored by the letter ‘D’. This product is probably best for adult use while demonstrating the letters to a younger child. Then again, a lot of these letters don’t resemble the real letters so this limits it’s use as a teaching tool. I’d probably advise to avoid this product regardless.

  3. The main quibble I have with this book is the lenticular cover. Not only is the direction of the lenticular film completely wrong (it’s 90 degrees off), the design demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of how that technology works. It ruins what should have been a great asset to the book – imagine if the title appeared in 3D. Rating: 3 / 5

  4. This book is really cool. I looked through it and found it interesting. However, most adults can find an alphabet pop up book only entertaining for a short time.

I had some little kids come to visit me. The oldest was 4 and she didn’t get past about D before deciding there must be something more fun to examine. I really wanted to like this and keep it around. I just couldn’t find a use for it.

It still gets three stars for being really cool. Maybe if I had a pediatricians office or something. Rating: 3 / 5
